Shipmates

The programme is committed to empowering youth in today’s society so that they have the tools to reach their full potential.

Shipmates is a youth volunteer programme: for 8 to 18 years, giving disadvantaged and/or at risk youth the opportunity to flourish on and off the water. The scheme develops skills from basic team work to leadership whilst gaining RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and BR (British Rowing) national qualifications.

Signing up to become a ‘Shipmate’ means our young volunteers pledge to be trained in and contribute to all aspects of the Charity – sailing, rowing, maintenance, admin, fundraising, etc. so they can in turn, help and teach others.

Shipmates meet every Saturday and at set times during school holidays from 09:30 – 16:00.

For our youth volunteers with disabilities or additional needs the session is from 09:30 – 12:30.
