Careers Taster Day

We were delighted to be invited to a “Skills & Careers Taster” event at New Woodlands school in Downham.

New Woodlands are a special school who support all children from 5 to 14 who have SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) as their main need. They support the child and the family to put in support mechanisms and strategies to help manage behaviour/learning progress.

AHOY’s Operations Manager, Clair and  ex-AHOY apprentice, Shannale, spoke to the pupils about our programmes and careers in the Watersports and Marine Industries.

Shannale, who has joined the AHOY as Challenge Team Recruiter & Rowing Instructor since the completion of her apprenticeship, spoke inspirationally about her time here at  AHOY and the pupils were polite, attentive and asked a variety of questions.

Shannale adds:

‘It was an amazing opportunity to be invited to New Woodlands school careers day, I saw myself a lot in the children I was speaking to as I also did not like school and never really felt I fitted into the community. Inspiration is the only word that comes to mind with these children as even though they all struggle with a variety of different things they still had hope to succeed in life and were all interested in my path from Apprentice to staff.’

We look forward to working closer with New Woodlands in the near future!”
