 Job Title: RYA Senior Instructor – leading to Chief Instructor position

An enthusiastic, motivated and competent RYA Senior Instructor with good communication and organisational skills is required for our energetic and rewarding charity based in Deptford, South London.

The SI will deliver our charity’s diverse range of water based activities and programmes with the opportunity to become Chief Instructor. The successful candidate will be an experienced RYA qualified Senior Instructor with the following key qualifications:

• RYA Senior Instructor with coastal endorsement and experience
• RYA Dinghy Instructor with coastal endorsement and experience
• RYA Powerboat Instructor with coastal endorsement and experience
Main duties include:
• Managing/Assisting with the delivery of both land and on-water activities which includes rowing, sailing and power boating
• Being a Team Leader working with other Instructors and personnel
• Ensuring that all craft and equipment are maintained to a high standard
In addition to this you will have proven team working skills and the ability to become an articulate and passionate advocate of our cause. Experience of working on the River Thames would be an advantage.

This position is for an initial six month contract leading to a permanent position

Freelance RYA Dinghy Instructor

Enthusiastic, motivated and competent Dinghy Instructors with good communication and team working skills are required for our energetic and rewarding charity based on the River Thames in Deptford, South London.

You will bring your experience and skills to support our Chief Instructors and assist with all areas of our activities including fleet and equipment maintenance.

Applicants are required to have the following qualifications:

  • RYA Dinghy Instructor
  • RYA Safety Boat Officer
  • Coastal/River Thames experience beneficial

Challenge Fundraisers

Bring your passion for a challenge to The AHOY Centre charity and help us grow our “Oarsome” fundraising challenges and help us ‘Change People’s Lives’

Do you have the passion and flair to inspire others? Do you want to help a small and ambitious Watersports based Charity grow and at the same time see how you are helping others? If so, we are looking for a 5th Fundraiser to join our friendly team!

The AHOY Centre’s Oarsome Rowing Challenges are delivered by the Charity to raise vital funds.

Working across the spectrum of sales, marketing, communication and event management and administration, you will be enthusiastic and able to inspire people to support our charity by taking up a rowing challenge.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A natural communicator and ‘people’ person, finding it easy to talk to people in person, on the phone and by email. You will be interested in finding out what makes people tick and developing long-lasting relationships with our challenge teams and supporters to create a strong return on fundraising.
  • Have a proven track record in sales and/or fundraising and will use your experience in other areas of your life to network and develop contacts within other sectors such as the corporate world.
  • Be flexible with their working hours as we are a seven day operation and evening and weekend work is part of the role.
  • Be competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel and updating/recording information.

This role is suited to someone who wants to develop their skills and experience at the heart of fundraising and events management. Working within a small friendly team from our base in Deptford, you’ll have opportunities to get out on the water too!

Freelance Boat Building Tutor/Assessor

Salary £26 – £34,000 pro-rata (depending on experience and skill sets)

Hours: Mimimum of two days per week

A Freelance vacancy for an enthusiastic and pro-active Boat Building Tutor/Assessor is required for our energetic and rewarding charity based in Deptford, South London.

The BBTA will work alongside our Watersports & Training Manager to deliver our diverse Boat Building Apprentice Programme and to maintain the charity’s fleet of boats. The BBTA will be pro-active, self-motivated and able to make decisions.

The successful candidate will be qualified in City & Guilds 2451 Boatbuilding Level 3, PTLLS or Level 3 in Education and Training Tutors and hold Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the work Environment. They will also have proven ability to work on their own initiative and deliver under pressure plus possess excellent verbal and written communication, organisational and Microsoft Office skills. Experience of working with volunteers and knowledge of fleet maintenance would be an advantage.

In addition you will have excellent team working skills and the ability to become an articulate and passionate advocate of our cause.

Freelance Rowing Coaches

The AHOY centre is looking for qualified rowing instructors to help us deliver our exciting and expanding rowing programme – teaching groups of children and adults to row in Thames Waterman Cutters and in our new rowing gym.
