to see the exciting plans for our new training building and to unveil a plaque naming the
HRH The Princess Royal visited us on Monday 27th of June - the hottest day of the year..!
The princess opened our charity‘s centre back in 2003 and this was her third visit
AHOY‘s very special Sailability Powercat craft –
“The AHOY Freedom”.
November 2003 - Building is officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal,
(Patron of the RYA)
2006 – HRH The Princess Royal revisits the Centre to re-open the slipway, disability access landing stage and gantry lift - Specially adapted boats for people with disabilities
The princess was met by the Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, Wing Commander Dudgeon and introduced to other dignitaries including the Mayor of Greenwich, volunteers and trustees.
Clive (Chair Trustee) said "It was a great honour to have The Princess Royal visit and to have the opportunity to update her on the exciting plans we have for the centre. The new building is key to keep developing and expanding so we can increase the charity's work and it will allow us to offer maritime based Apprenticeships and NVQs . bringing boat building and repair skills back to Deptford..
We were very lucky to have Her Royal Highness return to the centre and for her continued support and interest in The AHOY charity. Everyone had a great day and one which will always be remembered."
Some of our Shipmates took part in water activities for the guests and crewed and released balloons from the newly named boat.
