‘Pulling for AHOY!’  –  Cross Channel Row – Was On The 10th Of June 2010 AHOY has 2 dedicated teams made up of London business men who rowed across the English Channel to raise much needed funds for our charity. “AHOY Buoys” are a team made up of seven ‘30 & 40 something..’ aged males who are experienced rowers and who have competed in the Great London River Race over the last two years.  The second team called “‘Risky Business” all work in the world of insurance in the City of London and were all novice rowers before starting to train for this great event.

Our teams faced a gruelling row as less than 40 people/teams have ever managed to cross the channel successfully. They had to really step up to the challenge for The AHOY Centre. For more information on each team and how you can sponsor them (Yes It's Never Too Late) Even though the challange is over you can still donate - please visit their Justgiving sites http://www.justgiving.com/xchannelrowing and http://www.justgiving.com/AHOYBuoys and http://ahoybuoys.blogspot.com/

“For nearly a year The AHOY Centre Charity has been training 2 teams – AHOY Buoys & Risky Business to successfully row the English Channel in our centre’s 2 Thames Waterman cutters – raising much needed funds for the charity and it’s many users. The weather finally settled and the row took place on Sunday, 13th of June where the boats were launched near Dover Water sports Centre very close to the famous “White Cliffs of Dover” and both crews rowed the 21 miles without stopping and achieved the amazing finishing times of AHOY Buoys - 3 hours 43 minutes and 45 seconds & Risky Business  - 4 hours and 50 seconds

Both teams were involved in a vigorous training programme in order to prepare them for the event and the crew and team names are as follows:

AHOY Buoys: GUY SAUNDER,  LEE WITHERELL,  PHIL WHALL,  SIMON RODD,  BRUNO LINDER,  ANGUS SCOTT,  FAY BIRCHENOUGH

Risky Business: SCOTT BRADBURY,  OLIVER HOWARD,  KIRK JOHNSON,  RICHARD BAINBRIDGE,  MICHAEL HARRIS,  MARTYN HALL,  KEVIN ILES

AHOY Support Team:  BAILEY THOMPSON (Rowing Instructor),  TONY MASON (Lead Instructor), ARRON DOCK (Key Volunteer), MATTHEW NICHOLLS (Key Volunteer)
Over £20k was raised which is fantastic and everyone at The AHOY Centre Charity are very grateful and will be holding the brave rowers a special event to celebrate with them and to mark this incredible feat!”
